Wizards have so many quick and easy ways to get from one place to another that they don't tend to bother with vehicles. When they do use more mundane methods of transportation they usually enhance them. Wizards can make cars bigger on the inside than the outside; some of them weave snakelike through traffic jams and still others have been charmed to fly. Objects like these are highly restricted by the Improper Use of Muggle Artifacts office for fear of them falling into an unsuspecting Muggle's hands. If you wish to own one, you must submit an Item application.
The Hogwarts Express and the Knight Bus are the two main means of mass transportation within the Wizarding UK. Magic carpets are illegal, but Wizards may still use brooms to get around, provided they take measures to avoid Muggle detection. Portkeys are another convenient way to move groups of Wizards but these are closely regulated by the Department of Transportation and typically only used for large events like the Quidditch World Cup. "Emergency" Portkeys for getting individuals out of dangerous situations were common up until a few IC years ago; now they are unheard of.
Magical folk really don't need to rely on these means to get around. Most fireplaces are hooked up to the Floo network. By tossing a bit of Floo powder into a fire and stating aloud the place he wishes to go, a Wizard may simply step through his fireplace to travel nearly anywhere. In addition, all Wizards and Witches can take their Apparation exams at age 17. Upon passing the exam and receiving her Apparation license, a Witch may disappear and reappear some distance away by her own power. For more on how Apparation works on HE, type 'news ww apparation.'
