A Tinyplot (TP), simply put, is planned RP. It's a situation or series of interlinked situations that form a more involved storyline than the normal day-to-day RP can offer. TPs are an excellent way to spark off RP that involves many characters in excitement and high adventure. Not all tinyplots are adventure: a wedding, school event such as a dance or a social, or a party are all perfectly valid TPs. As such, some tinyplots require little more than the idea, the choice of a date and time, and the invitation posted on the appropriate bb.
Some TPs require staff approval. You should run any TP idea by an RPGen so that they can let you know if your TP needs approval or not. RPGens can also offer other hints to make your TP better. Below are a list of situations in which tinyplots always require staff approval.
- Involves Dark Wizards, Dark magic (that includes Unforgiveable Curses), Dark artefacts, Death Eaters, or Lord Voldemort
- Involves the Ministry of Magic and/or the international wizarding community (which by nature involves the Ministry of Magic).
- Involves powerful magical artefacts, or artefacts not capable of being duplicated by a normal spell, potion, or artifice already present in the HP world. For example, a plot requiring a polyjuice potion in the adult world may not need approval, one that involves the creation of a polyjuice potion that works for 24 hours will. More powerful potions such as Amortentia or Felix Felicis always require approval.
- Involves new types of magic or wide sweeping threats never seen before, such as magical viruses that take away wizarding abilities or charms that open portals to other dimensions. Plots that would introduce new elements to the wizarding world.
- Involves the use of Magical Creatures of any kind.
- Has problematic thematic elements. If you've got a plot involving wizards getting kidnapped by aliens, for example.
- Involves the breaking of wizarding law or the violation of major school rules, particularly if it involves assault.
- Involving students gaining physical combat skills. If you want your character to learn fencing, for instance, you must tell the staff and develop a plan for gaining the skill. Adults will naturally be more likely to have some combat skills - for that, fill out a generic app in the application room off of the OOC nexus.
When in doubt, ask. Failure to get a plot approved can lead to your plot getting retconned.
To submit a tinyplot for approval you will need to fill out a TP application. We have a coded system for this. Take a look at +help tp to learn how to use it. Unlike the character applications, you can use these commands from anywhere on the grid. If you're relatively new to tinyplots, want to run one, and are not sure how, contact any RPGen.
