It's important for staff on Hogwarts to obey rules as well. For one, it encourages trust between staff and players and, for another, helps avoid messy situations. Some of these are common sense, some of them are born from experience.
1. Helpers shall respect the rights of players. Players have rights (as delineated in the news files) and staff shall not impinge on those rights.
2. Helpers shall treat the players and other staff with respect.
3. Helpers shall not abuse their ability to examine things or the dark flag to spy on players. This means no hanging on channels you shouldn't be on (e.g. house or faction channels your staff bit does not pertain to) dark, no going into rooms dark and spying on RP.
4. Helpers shall not use OOC knowledge IC. Given the amount of information staff is privy to, this is especially important, and difficult. If you find yourself in a situation where you're not sure of the ethics of partaking in a scene, just talk to a fellow Helper and get their viewpoint.
5. Helpers shall not harass the players. Staff shall not use staff powers to ferret out alts, abuse access to player's private email addresses or otherwise use their bits to glean information about players.
6. Helpers shall not be on duty if they are not mentally fit. If you've been having a happy margarita night, you're not in good shape to be online. Similarly, if you feel yourself getting short tempered, take yourself off-duty, go dark or log off.
7. Helpers shall not abuse their access to the @tel command. Don't teleport a player without warning them first/asking their permission first. Don't teleport into a private room without telling the players therein you're coming/ask their permission if it's not a situation where you have the right to enter.
8. Privacy is holy. Site names and non-public emails should never be given out. Similarly, if someone is unfindable, don't give out their location.
9. Helpers will be examples for the MUSH. Helpers are held to a higher standard of behavior than a player. It is part of the cost of having access to the power. (Phenomenal cosmic powers.. itty bitty living space!) However, everyone should remember that Helpers are human and no one here is required to put up with abuse or harassment of any sort - including the Helpers.
10. Helpers shall not abuse @wall with non-game related shouts. @wall cannot be blocked, therefore it is important that anything said there is pertinent and necessary.
