This file is intended to help you understand and organize the information you will be putting in your email application. The profile templates may be found here. There are slight differences in student and adult profiles, and hence this file has been split up into two separate ones depending on which character type you are writing for. The following fields apply to all character types:
- Lineage - Halfblood only applies to those born from one pureblood parent and one Muggle or Muggleborn parent. Other mixes of lineage are simply 'mixed.'
- Family Background - This should be chronological, starting from the earliest information on your character's family up until IC present. Suggestions: family secrets, family traits, lineage, financial aptitude, parents' occupations, siblings, etc. You should include any mysteries that can potentially be used in future plots. Note that not everyone has an extensive family background and yours can be very elaborate or merely a sentence or two. You should not go in depth about your character.
- Description - This should cover only the physical details of your character - build, facial features, clothing, etc. Add any distinguishing characteristics - freckles, scars, tattoos or piercings. Please avoid anachronisms, as the game is set in late 1970's England. Students must adhere to school dress code. Avoid putting mention of your character's history. Keep in mind that not every person wins a beauty pageant. While it is acceptable to have a beautiful character, describe what makes your character beautiful instead of stating that he or she is so. Descs should be no shorter than a paragraph and no longer than two.
Students
- Background - This is your character's background and should detail the events of his or her life chronologically. It should begin at birth and end until the moment they enter Hogwarts. You are not expected to go in depth about schooling. Things to include: first magical experience, early childhood temperment, early interests. More fields can be added to expound on events away from Hogwarts.
- Hogwarts - This field should only be your character's relationships with others in the school. You should not detail weaknesses or strengths in subjects studied. Suggestions: social life, what people might know about your character, relationship with teachers, temperment, friends, house pride or lack thereof.
- Skills - Strengths and weaknesses of subjects studied at Hogwarts, extracurricular activities (Dueling Club, Charms Club, etc.) that may give an advantage.
- Classes - First and second years need only put 'Core classes.' Third to fifth years must add two additional electives. Sixth or Seventh years must include their OWL scores and NEWT classes. Please see 'news curriculum' for more information.
Adults (including teachers)
- Background - The background is a chonological series of events from birth till graduation of Hogwarts (or equivalent.) You are not expected to go in depth about any careers. Things to include: performance at school, interests, aspirations, school activities. More fields can be added to expound on events after graduation, such as marriage, death in family, resettlement in another country, etc.
- Career - These fields should read a combination of a job description and list of activities. Things to include: length of time at the job, day-to-day activities, major events that affected career, promotions, demotions, etc. There needs to be a separate field for each career your character has pursued. Being a Death Eater or member of the Underground constitutes a career. Characters may pursue more than one career at once. Career fields should not include your character's strengths or weaknesses at the job.
- Skills - Current career-related strengths and weaknesses. For some non-Ministry occupations it may be hard to go into detail about strengths and weaknesses, such as stay-at-home mothers or quidditch players. In those cases general strengths and weaknesses in magic could be used; strengths could be culinary arts, keen eye for detail, knowledge of common magical maladies, etc. Weaknesses may include no knowledge of magical combat.
- Exams - OWL and NEWT scores, or their equivalent. Please see 'news curriculum' for more information.
