Part-Giant (Being) - Though they are rare, there are persons descended from both Giants and humans. In such cases, it is the mother who is the Giant, since a human mother would have a difficult time successfully birthing such a large baby. The staff of Hogwarts Express will permit players to apply for such characters of Giant descent (via a Magical Creature app), being one half, one quarter or one eighth Giant. Due to their vicious nature and the extreme prejudice against them in the Wizard community, full-blooded Giant characters are not allowed. Those who have a Giant in their ancestry are very tall, up to ten feet in height, and very broad and bulky. They have a completely human appearance aside from their considerable stature, and despite the preconceived notions some Wizards and Witches hold, some may possess grace, considerable intelligence or a sweet temper. The British Ministry of Magic permits those with Giant heritage to use a wand and attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Part-Veela (Being) - Those who possess Veela ancestry are rare, and any such characters are female should they wish to be one half or one quarter Veela. Only when the blood has thinned to the point where one eighth is Veela can the character be a male. Anything weaker, and the character will not have any of the traits accredited to these beings. The staff of Hogwarts Express will permit players to apply for such characters (via a Magical Creature app), but at this time they will not accept full-blooded Veela. As can be expected, women (and the occasional man) with Veela blood are incredibly graceful and human in appearance, with pale eyes, pale skin and blonde hair. They cannot shapeshift nor fling magical fire, but they retain the ability to beguile men with their beauty. Most are talented in Divinations and the Healing Arts, and many retain sharp, temperamental natures. The British Ministry of Magic permits those with Veela heritage to use a wand and attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Phoenix (XXXX) - This magnificant bird is the size of a large swan and has rich red and golden plumage when it is in its prime. Typically its habitat consists of the highest mountain peaks where it makes its nests, and is indiginous to Egypt, India, and China. In addition to living an extremely long life for a bird, the Phoenix regenerates itself by bursting into flames and then re-emerging from its ashes as a fledgling. The Phoenix is extremely difficult to domesticate (hence its XXXX classification), but those wizards who are lucky enough to do so find the Phoenix to be powerfully empathetic. These gentle creatures are herbivores. The tears and feathers of the Phoenix contain powerful magic and are highly valued. Phoenix song encourages the hearts of the pure and strikes fear into those with evil intent. In ancient Mythology, the Phoenix's life cycle was strongly associated with the rising and setting of the sun. Even the great Herodotus was concerned with this seldom sighted creature describing them as great eagles, although admitting that he had never seen one. One text describes the death ritual of one unusual member of this species: "Sensing its death approaching, the Pheonix ate a meal of frankincense, cinnamon, and myrrh, and thereafter he built himself a final pyre of these aromatic woods. Perching in the nest, it flapped its wings rapidly until the nest was alight with fire and the creature was devoured, only to be replaced with a fresh-faced fledging. After the new fledgling emerged from his ashes, he gathered them into an egg with which he flew to the Temple of the Sun in Heliopolis, Egypt."
Pixie (XXX) - Natives of Cornwall, these mischievous creatures are a bright electric blue in color and shy of a foot in height. They are capable of flight despite the lack of wings, and delight in playing tricks, among which include the picking up of the unsuspecting by their ears and depositing them in a high place - like a tree or a building. Pixies produce a high-pitched unintelligable jabbering that is only interpretable by other pixies.
Plimpy (XXX) - The Plimpy is a kind of fish, mottled in colour. It is shaped like a ball with two long, rubbery legs and webbed feet. If you happen to spot a Plimpy with its legs tied in a knot, you will know that Merpeople are around. It has the annoying habit of nibbling on toes and fingers of swimmers.
Pogrebin (XXX) - These annoying little creatures are native to Russia. They are grey in colour, barely a foot in height of which they are mostly head - closely resembling a rock when crouching. They love to follow people around, infusing them with a sense of hopelessness until the human collapses, at which point the Pogrebin attempts to devour them. Many famous muggle Russian novelists have been plagued by this demon. They are easily repulsed by simple hexes, and even a well-placed kick.
Porlock (XX) - The Porlock is a horse-guardian found in Dorset, England, and southern Ireland. The Porlock lives to guard horses and will be found with a herd, although it is so distrustful of humans that it is seldom seen at all. The Porlock is a short, shaggy creature which walks on two cloven-hoofed feet. Fully grown Porlocks are about two feet in height. Generally, they are covered with hair the colour of custard, possess a large nose, and only have four fingers on each short arm. They share their meals with their charges: grass and hay.
Puffskein (XX) - Puffskeins are pleasant creatures, found worldwide. They are little custard coloured furballs with long tongues which make a calming purring noise when petted. They make no objection to being thrown about or being cuddled - making them equally appealing pets for wizardlings or witchlings. They also eat just about anything with their long pink tongue that snakes about the house at night. However, their favourite food is booger straight from the nostril.
Quintaped (XXXXX) - One of the most dangerous of magical beasts, the Quintaped is found only on the Isle of Drear off the north tip of Scotland. They are hairy, consisting of five legs centering on a head with a large tooth-filled mouth. There is a fascinating legend about the origin of the Quintapeds which involves a feud between two wizarding clans and a poorly thought-out magical attack. The reader is urged to read the full account in a reputable source such as "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" by Newt Scamander. The Isle of Drear has been made Unplottable to protect the unwary.
Ramora (XX) - This silver fish, incidentally indigenous to the Indian Ocean, is powerfully magical and has been the guardian of sea-farers. It is able to anchor a ship and guide a wayward one back to its course. These creatures are protected from poaching by strict laws placed by the International Confederation of Wizards.
Re'em (XXXX) - Rare giant oxen with golden hides. Found in the plains of North American and the Far East. The blood provides magical strength to those who drink it, but this component is extremely rare owing to the difficulty in finding a willing donor.
Red Cap (XXX) - Red Caps love bloodshed; they bludgeon those lost in dungeons or battlefields. They resemble short, old elves with a sturdy build and long grey hair. They are about four feet tall and have red eyes. According to A Field Guide To The Little People (Nancy Arrowsmith with George Moorse, New York: Hill and Wang, 1977): Some of the most bloodthirsty Scottish elves are the Lowland castle spirits. They are called Red Caps...and by some accounts are said to live only in castles with a history of violence. Others say they live in all Lowland peel-towers fortified houses or towers. It may well be that both accounts are true. The Red Caps' main occupation is colouring their red caps, which they dye with human blood. They throw boulders on to travellers from their towers, then catch the blood in their caps. As soon as the blood dries and the colour fades, the Red Caps look for new victims. They also foretell disasters by making a loud noise like the beating of flax. The only things that discourage them are crosses, cross-handled swords, and words from the Bible." (p. 47) This text was written by a particularly perceptive Muggle. However, these creatures are easily repelled by wizards with simple hexes and charms.
Runespoor (XXXX, eggs are Class A nontradeable items) - This magical creature originated in the country of Burkina Faso. It is a snake which possesses three heads. After you get past the heads, you will also note that it is about seven feet in length at full growth, and has bright orange and black stripes. The left head is the planner, the middle head is the dreamer and the right head is the critic - spending its time making cutting remark about the other two heads. It is not uncommon for these creatures to only possess two heads and a stump - the result of the left and middle head ganging up on the right head after too many remarks. Unfortunately, as only the right head is venomous this renders the snake less dangerous. Eggs of the runespoor are emitted through its mouths, and are extremely valuable as they are components known to improve mental agility but can only be obtained on the black market. These snakes are favored pets of Dark Wizards, and the bulk of knowledge we have is obtained from the writings of a parseltongue who was apprehended by the Burkina Faso ministry of magic.
