Hogwarts Express MUSH

Jarvey (XXX) - Resembling an overgrown ferret, the Jarvey is one of the few beasts which can actually talk. It's speech, however, consists entirely of rude phrases and insults. Jarveys chase Gnomes, who are their favorite food. They will also settle for other more mundane garden vermin: voles, mice, and rats.

Jobberknoll (XX) - The Jobberknoll is a tiny blue speckled bird which makes no sound until the moment of its death, when it lets out a long scream consisting of all the sounds it has ever heard in a reverse order. It sups on a diet of insects.

Kappa (XXXX) - This Japanese water-demon is yellow-green and scaly, having the face of a monkey and the body of a turtle. It dwells in rivers, ponds, streams, or lakes, but because of a depression in its head in which it carries water from its home, it is able to leave the water in search of victims. Providing the water is present in its skullcap, the Kappa possesses superior strength and magical powers. It is a particularly violent demon who drags its victims to their watery deaths, after which it sups on its favorite dish - the human liver. Despite their violent tendencies, these creatures also possess a high intelligence and sense of honor. The best way to defeat a Kappa is to bow to it. It being a curteous creature will return your bow, losing some of the water from the top of its head. Another way to loose the effects of this creature is to carve your name into a cucumber and cast it into the water where the Kappa dwells. The Kappa is honor-bound to not give harm to an individual of whom he has accepted a cucumber.

Kelpie (XXXX) - This British water demon can take upon the form of various shapes, one of its most famous being a horse with weeds for a mane. It will lure unsuspecting victims onto its back and then dive into deep waters where it will disembowel the unwary. The world's biggest Kelpie is the Loch Ness Monster. The way to subdue a Kelpie is to place a bridle over its nose with the aid of a Placement Charm.

Kitsune (XXXX) - Kitsune, sometimes called Fox Spirits, are native to Japan, China and Korea. They are small creatures that resemble the mundane fox until they reach a more advanced age. Every one hundred years a Kitsune grows an additional tail and its powers are strengthened. The lifespan of a Kitsune is 900 to 1000 years, although to find one of such a great age is extremely rare. Male Kitsune have black fur, and the females have white. The females bear a litter of two to three cubs after a gestation period of five years. Their eyes are always golden, which is the major identifying trait of a young Kitsune that has yet to grow its second tail. They are carnivores, able to consume the meat of any animal, although they prefer the flesh of other Magical Creatures. This creature is known to be very intelligent and mischievous, making trouble for any Witch or Wizard it encounters. They are nearly impossible to keep caged since they have a talent for picking locks. They are also fond of stealing anything that captures their fancy. Kitsune also have the ability to shapeshift into both animate and inanimate objects for a limited amount of time - typically ten minutes in the younger generations and twenty minutes in the elders. They are also able to possess a Witch, Wizard or Muggle, forcing this individual to act in a manner that is usually humiliating but rarely harmful. They are able to do this only for a short period of time, typically only two to five minutes. Keeping a Kitsune was made illegal by the Wizards' Council due to its ability to possess a Witch or Wizard. In 1525 the Chief, Mr. Edmund Slackbelly, passed the Regulation after a particularly embarrassing incident involving his own Kitsune. According to public record, he had entered the meeting hall one morning under its influence, wearing his wife's nightrobe and joyfully morris dancing to his own offkey singing. The Kitsune had been a present from a Wizard Minister of Japan, given to supposedly show there were no hard feelings after Mr. Slackbelly had vomited in the Minister's lap after sampling a bite of sushi during a diplomatic dinner party.

Knarl (XXX) - Exactly like a hedgehog in physical appearance, except that the Knarl takes offense easily at food left for it (usually by unwitting muggles thinking it was a hedgehog) and will wreak havoc on garden plants of the unwary.

Kneazle (KNEE-zul) (XXX) - This feline is slightly larger than a domestic cat, and has spotted fur, large ears, and a lion-like tail. They are highly intelligent and have been known to be agressive. The Kneazle can detect unsavory or suspicious persons very well and will react badly to them. However, if it takes a liking to a Witch or Wizard, it makes an excellent pet. They are able to breed with domestic cats, having up to eight kittens in a litter. Licenses are required for the keeping of a Kneazle, obtainable from the Department for the Control of Magical Creatures. Licenses are necessary for these creatures because they are sufficiently unusual enough to attract the attention of the non-magical.

Leprechaun (XXX) - Leprechauns are tiny creatures (six inches) which look like little green humans. They can speak, although they are not classified as "beings." Leprechauns are woodland creatures typically, who eat leaves and are found soley in Ireland. Leprechauns enjoy taunting muggles, playing pranks that classically involve the muggle attempting to catch the Leprechaun in order to get their gold. Leprechauns produce a gold-like substance which vanishes after an hour or two.

Lethifold (XXXXX) - This dangerous beast resembles a half-inch thick black cloak which moves along the ground at night, hunting its prey. It attacks sleeping humans, smothers them, and then digests them, all in their bed, leaving no trace at all. The only defense against a Lethifold is a Patronus Charm. Thankfully, this creature is rare and typically only found in the tropics.

Lobalug (XXX) - A ten inch long sea creature who consists of a poison sac and a spout. The Lobalug is used as a weapon by Merpeople, and its venom is used in potions.
