Dementor (XXXX) - Guards of the dreaded wizard prison Azkaban, Dementors are always robed in black. They suck the happiness out of any location, and, while muggles cannot see them, they can feel the effects of their presence. The Dementor's most dreaded weapon is the 'Dementor's Kiss' with which the soul is sucked out of a man, leaving an empty, thought supposedly living, husk. None see inside of it's hood but those who are kissed, and they are in no condition to tell what a Dementor looks like. The only known defense against one is the Patronus spell, and the best remedy for the cold feeling that comes after an encounter is chocolate.
Demiguise (XXXX) - This elusive ape-like creature is able to turn itself invisible at will. Only extremely skilled wizards specializing in the capture of a demiguise has a chance to do so. They are herbivorous and are found in the northern far east. Demiguise wool is excellent for the making of invisibility cloaks.
Diricrawl (XX) - This flightless bird, known to muggles as the Dodo, has the ability to vanish in a puff of feathers and reappear elsewhere at will. Their numbers have been steadily increasing since they have learned to avoid muggles.
Doxy/Biting Fairy (XXX) - Despite its common name, the doxy is a very different species than the fairy. It is a small humanoid covered in black fur with has an extra pair of arms and legs and insectoid wings - usually a beetle-type. These creatures prefer colder climes, reproduce via egg-laying, and possess rows of sharp venomous teeth for which an antidote is available and necessary.
Dragon (XXXXX, eggs are Class-A nontradeable goods) - This lizardlike creature, whose skeletal remains have been found by muggles and pronounced "Dinosaurs" with some help from the Ministry of Misinformation, are both highly admired and feared in the magical community. The female is larger than the male as a rule, and both possess a highly resistant hide which is made into protective clothing. There are ten breeds of this species who are found in various parts of the world, each of which is regulated to protective refuges which allow wizards and witches to observe them and collect their valuable hide, liver, blood, heart, and horn. The breeds in short are: Antipodean Opaleye, Chinese Fireball, Common Welsh Green, Hebridean Black, Hungarian Horntail, Norwegian Ridgeback, Peruvian Vipertooth, Romanian Longhorn, Swedish Short-snout, and the Ukranian Ironbelly.
Dream Devourer (XXX) - The Dream Devourer is a small, spectral creature, existing on more or less the same level of physical presense as a ghost, only less visible to the naked eye. Its natural diet is that of dreams, leeched out of its victims mind during sleep by means of its tentacled feeding orifice. It can be detected most easily by ghosts, but a wizard might also use a perception charm to detect its presense. It is harmless in any direct way - the lack of dreams however is harmful for humans over greater extents of time. They are non-sentient, and are usually found in the UK only in certain remote regions of Wales and Ireland. The creature can easily be captured when it is not feeding, but to remove the creature while it is attached to someone else might pose a danger to both the creature and its victim.
Dugbog (XXX) - This marsh-dwelling creature closely resembles a piece of driftwood, but it is slimy and has finned paws and very sharp teeth. While its normal staple food are small marsh-dwelling mammals, its favored food is the mandrake, making it a prime enemy of magical herbologists and gardeners alike. It also has been known to take chunks out of human ankles when given the opportunity.
Dwarf (XXX/being) - These creatures resemble short, stocky, wizened old men with overlarge heads. They have long grey beards and misshapen legs and feet. They like to dress in drab, earthy colors allowing them to avoid detection by human eyes. They prefer to dwell in the depths of the earth where they mine and craft. The dwarven work-ethic is unsurpassed, and they possess unusual abilities to craft metal and stone. They also are able to divine the depths for the best veins of ore and gems. Dwarven-made weapons are the finest possible, some even possessing magical qualities. Native to the northern Europe, the German culture is the most affected by contact with these creatures. It is said that on occasion, German miners have encountered the work houses and caverns of Dwarves and were met with surprising welcomes. If treated with respect, a Dwarf is likely to give good advice, help a craftsman improve his work, sound the alert when the mine-shafts are filling with poisonous gases from the deep, and even direct the miners to the best veins. Steal from or insult a dwarf and he is likely to curse your work, cause your shafts to collapse, and turn your gems and metal to useless leaves. Dwarves live long lives - hundreds of years. No one has ever seen the female of the species.
Erkling (XXXX) - The Erkling is a small elf-like creature native to Germany. Its high-pitched laugh is particularly entrancing to children, which the Erklings like to eat. Erkling killings have decreased dramatically over the last few hundred years as the German Ministry of Magic has put in place strict controls over the creatures.
Erumpent (XXXX) - This huge African magical beast resembles a rhinoceros. Its horn, which can pierce almost anything, contains a fluid which explodes, destroying what it has hit. Because male Erumpents frequently explode each other during mating season, the species is somewhat endangered.
Fairy (XX) - Tiny creatures which look like perfectly formed humans with insect wings. Fairies have very limited intelligence. They are extremely vain and quarrelsome. They like nothing better than to serve as decoration. Fairies have their own weak form of magic which they use primarily to avoid being eaten by predators. Fairies cannot speak, but communicate with each other using a form of buzzing.
Fire-Crab (XXX) - The Fire-Crab looks like a tortoise with a jeweled shell, and can shoot fire out of its rump. It is constantly in danger of being killed for its shell, which unscrupulous wizards will use as cauldrons. The Fire-Crab is native to Fiji, where there is a coastal reserve set aside for its protection from wizard and muggle alike.
Flesh-Eating Slug (XXX) - This slug is more repulsive than the average garden slug. It denudes the landscape with its voracious appetite, to the point of even attempting to devour animals (and the occasional child). Its secretions are numbing, like that of the leech, allowing the smallest slugs to sneak up on its prey. Luckily, they are uncommon and easy enough to euthanize. They have a taste for Bourbon which is easy enough to add a dehydrating potion to. Currently there is a quiet effort throughout Britain to rid the fair isles of these disgusting, garden-ruining creatures.
Flobberworm (X) - A ten-inch, toothless brown worm which eats vegetation, especially iceburg lettuce. The mucus it exudes is used to thicken potions. Boring as pets.
Fwooper (XXX) - African bird with brightly-colored feathers. The Fwooper song will drive the listener insane and must therefore be sold with a Silencing Charm on it which must be renewed at regular intervals. The feathers of the Fwooper make excellent quills.
