Hogwarts Express MUSH

Ashwinder (XXX) - A thin, pale grey serpent with glowing red eyes that is borne of a magical fire left burning and unattended too long. It has a short life-span: only the course of an hour during which it seeks a dark place in the building and lays eggs, after which the Ashwinder disappears into dust. The eggs glow red and radiate intense heat which have the potential for setting the building ablaze. Ashwinder eggs, once handled appropriately, are a sought-after component of love potions.

Augurey/Irish Phoenix (XX) - This thin, pitiable bird has deflated black-green plumage, making it resemble a drowned buzzard. Augureys wail at the approach of rain, and they feed on fairies and insects. The Augurey in fact only flies in rain, and is otherwise holed up in a tear-shaped nest, it being an excessively shy animal.

Basilisk (XXXXX) - Brilliant green and approaching 50 feet in length in some cases, the Basilisk is truly the "King of all Snakes". The male possesses a large scarlet plume on his head. In addition to extremely venomous fangs, the gaze of its yellow eyes is death. There are no recorded sightings of any of these in almost 400 years. The creation of a basilisk is illegal.

Billiwig (XXX) - Australian insect. The Billiwig is about half an inch in length, consisting of a bulbous head with wings attached at the top and a long thin stinger extending downwards. The insect is too fast to be noticed by Muggles, and its sting causes one to levitate. The dried stingers of these insects are used in potions as a levitation agent. Severe allergic reactions to the sting can result in permanant floatation.

Bowtruckle (XX) - Native to England, Scandinavia, and Germany, this tree guardian is difficult to spot, appearing to be composed of twigs with a maximum height of eight inches. Usually shy, with a diet consisting only of insects, the Bowtruckle will become extremely aggressive when its tree is threatened, using its twiggy appendages to attempt to gouge out the offender's eyes.

Bundimun (XX) - This pest infiltrates the foundations of buildings and is detectable by only the foul stench it emits. A sort of magical fungus, it secretes a substance that erodes stone and wood into dirt which is the creature's dietary staple. If a Bundimun gets too large, then it is necessary to call in experts to rid the dwelling of its influence. The secretions are used in a diluted form as a magical cleaner.

Centaur (XXXX) - Originating in Greece, the Centaur race consists of highly intellegent half-men, half-horse beings that have been classified as beasts at their own request. They mistrust wizard and muggle equally, and have chosen to relegate themselves to herds of 10-50 in size which exist in forests set aside for them throughout the continents. Their ways are mysterious to wizards, but they are said to be experts in divination, astronomy, and magical healing. Their weapon of choice is the bow. Historically, Centaurs were wild creatures who were given to war and uncontrollable emotions. Chiron, the most famous Centaur, was the exception in that day and was the teacher of Hercules, Achilles, Jason and even Asclepius. It is said that Chiron was born with immortality, but when he was accidentally wounded by the arrow of his pupil Hercules, he gave up his immortality because of the pain caused by the poison. The herds of Centaurs that exist throughout the British Isles and Europe follow in Chiron's philosophies and have forsaken the habits of their ancestors.

Chimera (XXXXX, eggs are class A non-tradable goods) - Rare creature with the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and the tail of a dragon. Vicious, extremely dangerous - no wizard has ever defeated a Chimera and survived. Subsequently, no wizards are willing to study these creatures in-depth and little is known of their habits.

Chizpurfle (XX) - Tiny parasites that resemble crabs with large fangs, these pests feed on anything magical. They are often found in the fur of magical creatures, bottoms of cauldrons left not cleaned out, or in magical devices. In absence of magic, these creatures are attracted to electricity and have been known to make muggle machines fail. These creatures are destructive, but handled easily with specific potions.

Clabbert (XX) - American creature. A cross between a monkey and a frog it is generally peaceable. Besides its horns and wide razor-edged grimace, the Clabbert has a nobby pustule in the centre of its forehead that glows red and flashes when it senses danger approaching. It is possible to tame them as pets, but there is a danger of the flashing accidentally attracting muggle attention.

Crup (XXX) - This wizarding dog is extremely loyal to wizards and very vicious towards muggles. It has the appetite of a goat, but it remsembles a jack russel terrier excluding its forked tail. These pets must be licensed by the Department for the Regulation of Magical Creatures, and before recieving their licenses, the owner is obliged to remove the tail with a painless severing charm lest they be spotted by a muggle.
