The department of Magical Law Enforcement is responsible for the investigation, apprehension, and trials of those involved in breaking wizarding law. They also work with the Department of Social Services to investigate cases of child abuse and neglect. Lately, however, their main focus has been on the investigation and apprehension of Dark Wizards, to the point where the Aurors, the main law enforcement body, are often referred to simply as "Dark Wizard Catchers."

The department also employees specially trained "Hitwizards," high level agents who may be dispatched for anything from undercover missions to assassination missions. A Hitwizard must complete Auror training and then an additional year of Hitwizard training.

An officer handles lower level violations of wizarding law, leaving the Aurors and Hitwizards to deal with dark wizards and major violations.

The Wizengamot brings criminals to trial, hearing their cases and making rulings.

There are also some support departments available for play within the MLE. Techies monitor dispatch and track mirrors from HQ; CSI officers come in and help examine crime scenes and work in the labs with evidence. The MLE employs a Mindhealer as well; information on that role can be found here.
