Hogwarts Express MUSH

Sometimes referred to as Dark Wizard Catchers, the role of an Auror is often that of soldier and investigator. They are sent out to hunt down and capture suspected users of Dark Wizardry, and these encounters often result in fierce duels. They have also been known to battle the Giants and other unsavoury Magical Creatures. Under the direction of Bartemius Crouch, Sr. the Aurors have been authorised to bypass the normal channels of justice. They are legally permitted to kill or capture suspects, using whatever means necessary, including the Unforgivables. The jurisdiction of an Auror is limited to his constituency, except under prearranged circumstances.

Auror training is a three-year intensive programme, which covers topics such as Stealth, Disguise, Interrogation, Investigation and Advanced Duelling. To even be considered for acceptance into the programe, one needs at least five NEWTs. The required NEWTs are Charms, DAtDA, Potions and Transfigurations. The fifth is an elective, and recommended subjects are Healing Arts, Care of Magical Creatures and Ancient Runes. A sixth NEWT is recommended, but is not necessary for acceptance.

The ranks are as follows:

Neophyte - These individuals are considered the rookies, fresh out of training. Very rarely are they ever sent out on dangerous missions, and when sent out at all, they are usually accompanied by an Adeptus. The length of time that an Auror remains at this rank is dependent upon his compentence and his devotion to duty. An Auror is not promoted until he has proven himself to the corps and to his immediate Enforcer. Generally, this lasts three to four years. In recent times, however, Crouch has been promoting his Aurors more quickly to replace those who have fallen in the line of duty.

Adeptus - The general rank of most Aurors, this is a respected position in itself, and it forms the bulk of the corps. When not sent out in squads under the command of an Enforcer, they are expected to patrol the streets. Because of this and their greater numbers, they are usually the first to arrive at the scene of a crime. Adepti are also expected to further train and season Neophytes, taking an 'apprentice' with them on their patrols whenever needed.

Enforcer - These individuals are in command of squads of Aurors, numbering no more than ten at any one time. Their squad members largely fall under the Adeptus and Neophyte rankings, although Trainees are assigned to squads as well. When not sent on a mission, Enforcers are expected to patrol the streets.

Execuator - The head of the Auror corp in a specific constituency, this person reports to the Lord Protector on the activities of the men and women in his or her command. He or she is expected to work in cooperation with other Execuators in the events of a crisis and is responsible for the maintenance of order in his or her district.

Lord Protector - The person in this position is the superior officer of all of the Aurors, answering only to the Head of the Department. This position is as political as it is authoritative, requiring the person to be familiar with combat and managing resources. Bernard Dimmsdale is the current Lord Protector. (A note: Dimmsdale is an NPC and not an actual character on the MUSH. If you need him for any reason, send an @mail to *helpers.)
