Ministry cursebreakers work to reverse any powerful curses cast. This may mean working with artefacts or on an actual current day case. Like a cursebreaker employed by Gringotts, they may be sent out of the country on a mission as required.
NEWT Recommendations:
Required: Charms, Defense, Transfiguration, Potions
Recommended: History of Magic, Ancient Runes
Cursebreaker Trainee: Cursebreakers have one very specific, yet very diverse job function. They need to be able to break any type of curse imaginable. Cursebreakers need to be creative, intelligent, and able to think on their feet. As such, the training course for Cursebreakers is one of the longest in MAC. Excellent scores in Charms, Defense, Transfiguration, and Potions are required. In addition, knowledge of Ancient Runes and History of Magic is highly recommended prior to beginning the training course. Counter-curses, safe removal of runes, and ancient history are all major subjects covered during the training, though trainees will receive training in all relevant areas.
Cursebreaker: A Cursebreaker who has completed all their training and is a full ministry employee, with all rights and responsibilities. A Cursebreaker will have to do a fair amount of travel to deal with cursed artifacts, places, and even people. There will be times that Cursebreakers will be sent out of the country to deal with such things, and should understand that before taking the job. Cursebreakers are equally responsible for teaching the trainees as Senior Cursebreakers, due to the nature of the job taking them away for long periods of time. Most Cursebreakers will eventually develop a specialty, such as runes, artifacts, locations, or something along those lines. There is no formal title given for these specialties.
Senior Cursebreaker: A senior cursebreaker has many of the same duties as a regular cursebreaker, except they are more experienced and have, almost without exception, chosen an area of expertise. They are expected to maintain a working knowledge of almost all forms of cursebreaking. In addition, they are expected to actively seek out possible dormant curses. Arithmancy and Divination are commonly-used methods to determine these hidden sites, though research through old texts and good old legwork are also used. They are also expected to help in the instruction of trainees.
Head Cursebreaker: This person reports directly to the head of the MAC department regarding everything involving the cursebreakers. This individual oversees the senior cursebreakers directly, being responsible for providing opportunities for them to further educate themselves and resolving conflicts. The head cursebreaker also heads out on major events like those of the senior cursebreakers do. They are also responsible for conducting annual reviews and making recommendations to Human Resources about staff issues.
